A Dozen Ways to Prosper in the New Year

New, Positive Thought Patterns for the New Year

Here are a few things we would all do well to take to heart as we enter a new year:

1. Silence is often misinterpreted, but never misquoted.

2. Laugh every day; it's like inner jogging.

3. The most important things in your home are the people.

4. Growing old is inevitable; growing up is optional.

5. There is no key to happiness. The door is always open. Come on in.

6. A grudge is a heavy thing to carry.

7. He who dies with the most toys is still dead.

8. We do not remember days, but moments. Life moves too fast, so enjoy your precious moments.

9. Nothing is real to you until you experience it; otherwise it's just hearsay.

10. Surveying and living your life successfully requires courage.

11. The goals and dreams you're seeking require courage and risk-taking. Learn from the turtle; it only makes progress when it sticks its neck out.

12. Be more concerned with your character than your reputation. Your character is who you really are, whereas your reputation is merely who others think you are.

Wishing you success in the New Year!
Jeanne

NOTE: In my haste, I neglected to mention that I didn't actually write these gems of wisdom myself, but reproduced them from an e-mail I recently received--you know the ones that are always making the rounds. It consisted of 24 ways to prosper in the new year, but I culled the 12 that I felt were most appropriate for posting to this blog.

Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.

That's my motto!

Hi, Amy!

...And a great motto it is! It certainly places the responsibility for growing up right where it belongs! Yet it also opens the possibility of growing up while always remaining young at heart!

Have a wonderful New Year!

Great list Jeanne, 4 stands out, but truthfully, they're all great. Raven

Raven,

No. 4 really does get one thinking, doesn't it? Yet I agree with you that each of these has something valid to say. Hopefully, we'll all learn a little more of these kinds of lessons in the New Year.

Wisdom! Wisdom! Lately I've been thinking a great deal about #6. Some people I truly love are heavily burdened by their own grudges - very sad.

Excellent advice for starting the new year, Jeanne.

Brad,

It is indeed sad. I hope they'll be able to work through their feelings soon and master this very hurtful tendency which right now is their master.

Thanks for stopping by to comment!

Hi, Lillie!

I thought so, too. I actually received these in an e-mail--you know the ones that are always making the rounds. It consisted of 24 ways to prosper in the new year, but I culled the 12 that I felt were most appropriate for posting to my blog. I thought there were some real gems of wisdom among them.

Thanks for the visit!

Thanks, Michele!

What a sweet thing to say! I appreciate that! I do try my best to be positive and encouraging and to provide as much inspiration as I can! Those are a few of my main goals in writing this blog, and it's great to hear that I'm succeeding in some small way!

I liked how you compared risk-taking to a turtle - go slow and don't be afraid to stick your neck out. What a beautiful metaphor to keep in my mind!

Hi, Robyn!

Wish I could take credit for these words of wisdom, but, alas, they were borrowed from another source. For this post, I've simply reproduced some thoughts that were included in an e-mail I recently received--points I thought we'd all do well to ponder in the New Year.

Glad the turtle analogy spoke to you, though! I, too, thought that one was particularly apt for writers--or, for that matter, anyone--interested in achieving success.

Thanks for the visit!
Jeanne
